Soccer Stunner

By now we all know the news that Landon Donovan will not be on the roster for World Cup this year. Mistake r not, we will see but either way, there is huge pressure on Jurgen Klinsmann to get this team to next stage in the "Group of Death".

1.  The Evidence was There.

When I first heard I was shocked that he would not be playing, but the more I though about it I began to get less and less shocked about the news.  I won't say Donovan has been in the doghouse over the past year, but he certainly has not been in Klinsman's favor over that time.  We begin when Donovan had to fight to decide if he wanted to even play, all the way up Klinsman not starting him against Mexico in a friendly.  While it is surprising to a point, there was evidence that he would not make the team.

2.  Should he be on the Team?

Yes, I do believe Landon Donovan should on the roster for this year's squad.  Whether he should start is a different question, but he should have at least a spot coming off the bench.  Donovan coming off the bench could be a threat for United States if they need a goal.  He has proven himself as a scorer, and when I see this roster he might be needed.  That brings me to my next point.

3.  Who's Going to Score?
Who is going to score goals for the U.S. during this World Cup.  With Christiano Ronaldo and the likes of Germany, plus an inexperienced back line someone is going to have to provide fire power outside of Clint Dempsey?  Maybe Michael Bradley from the midfield, Jozy Altidore as a striker, although counting on him might not the best thing to do.  I do like Wondolowski but he is a finisher and needs to be set up more often than  not.  Is Julian Green a wild card?  He will have to be.

4.  Julien Green
Without Donovan, maybe not now but Julian Green is going to have to be a star for the United States.  Green has great potential as a goal scorer,  but at 18 who knows if he is going to even play.  With Green on the roster instead of Donovan, coach is going for the future, but that future is now for the United States.
